conserve restore habitat badgeThe Roller Stream and Wetland Mitigation Site is permanently protected under a conservation easement held by Unique Places to Save, ensuring the long-term preservation of restored streams, wetlands, and riparian buffers within the Collins River Basin. This permanent protection safeguards the site from future development and land-use conversion, securing lasting ecological and water quality benefits across a landscape historically impacted by agriculture and channel modification.

Through conservation easement protection, the project ensures that restored stream channels remain stable, connected to their floodplains, and capable of supporting natural hydrologic and ecological processes in perpetuity. Stream re-establishment improves channel form and function, reduces erosion and sediment transport, and strengthens aquatic and riparian habitat connectivity over the long term.

Wetland and floodplain resources protected by the easement are restored and enhanced to support natural hydrology, groundwater interaction, and native vegetation communities. The permanent exclusion of livestock, removal of invasive species, and establishment of forested riparian buffers allow wetlands and floodplains to function as resilient systems for water storage, nutrient processing, and habitat diversity.

By placing the Roller Mitigation Site under a perpetual conservation easement held by Unique Places to Save, the project guarantees that the ecological, hydrological, and habitat improvements achieved through restoration are preserved indefinitely, providing enduring watershed benefits and high-quality habitat within the Collins River Basin.

Why the Right Conservation Partner Matters

Conservation easements are permanent, legally binding agreements that shape how land can be utilized far into the future. Because of that permanence, the organization you choose to work with matters as much as the land itself.
