Unique Places to Save’s conservation easement over the Beaver Tail mitigation bank helped to permanently protect a successfully restored tributary to Howard’s Creek and included the creation, enhancement, and preservation of associated wetlands.
The initiative addressed key stressors within the watershed by achieving measurable improvements in nutrient removal, sediment reduction, runoff filtration, and habitat quality for both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
To accomplish these objectives, RES’ restoration project implemented a combination of stream restoration, wetland creation, enhancement, preservation, and buffer reestablishment. These interventions collectively resulted in a significant functional uplift within the Howard’s Creek watershed, improving sediment transport, enhancing water quality, and providing critical habitat for native species.
