The Brooks Swamp conservation easement project has preserved multiple mitigation goals of enhancing water quality and ecological health in streams through the restoration and expansion of a hardwood riparian corridor. These improvements have positively impacted Brooks Swamp, which flows into Thoroughfare Swamp and ultimately the Neuse River.
Approximately 9.2 acres of riparian cropland adjacent to two streams were reforested with native hardwood trees and shrubs, significantly reducing nutrient runoff from agricultural activities. Approximately 11 acres of restored aquatic habitats were conserved through the perpetual conservation easement held by Unique Places to Save.
