Unique Places to Save is proud to collaborate with Resource Environmental Solutions to facilitate the permanent protection of the Camp Run Stream and Wetland site. Located in Hampshire County, West Virginia, this 65-acre conservation area is a critical component of the watershed approach to mitigating unavoidable impacts from the Corridor H highway project.
The project area sits within the Cacapon-Town Watershed, a region characterized by steep, forested terrain that has historically suffered from the effects of timbering and intensive agricultural clearing. These historical uses led to deeply incised stream channels and the degradation or burial of vital floodplain wetlands. By implementing a comprehensive restoration plan, the project aims to restore approximately 19,294 linear feet of stream and establish or rehabilitate over 14 acres of wetlands.
Key restoration goals include reconnecting streams to their natural floodplains, improving bank stability, and removing invasive species to allow native vegetation communities to thrive. These efforts will significantly reduce sediment and pollutant loading into Camp Run, which eventually flows into the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay.
As the conservation easement holder and long-term steward, Unique Places to Save ensures that these ecological gains are protected in perpetuity. This commitment guarantees that the restored hydrologic functions and improved wildlife habitats will provide lasting environmental value to the Appalachian landscape and the communities that depend on healthy water systems.
