Located in Randolph County of North Carolina

Covering approximately 45.83 acres within the Yadkin River Basin, the easement permanently safeguards critical native forested areas, riparian wetlands, and eleven unnamed tributaries to Caraway Creek. The protected area will remain in its natural condition in perpetuity, helping preserve scenic open space, relatively natural habitat, and vital aquatic resources for present and future generations.

The Little Cabin project represents an important investment in restoring and protecting headwater streams and adjacent riparian ecosystems. In partnership with Wildlands Engineering, Inc., restoration efforts are designed to reconnect streams to floodplains, reestablish wetlands, and establish wide riparian buffers. These actions will significantly improve water quality by filtering nutrient and sediment runoff from surrounding active agricultural operations, restoring watershed hydrology, and increasing habitat connectivity.

Through long-term conservation and stewardship, the Little Cabin easement will contribute lasting environmental value, protecting 11,499 linear feet of stream and 1.29 acres of wetlands. The site also features a mixed hardwood forest community that provides essential habitat for numerous wildlife species, including potential habitat for the endangered Schweinitz's sunflower.

Unique Places to Save is honored to hold and steward this conservation easement as part of its mission to protect valuable land and water resources across North Carolina. We are also grateful for the partnership with Wildlands Engineering, Inc., whose support and expertise have been valuable in advancing this ecological restoration and helping bring the Little Cabin project to completion.
