The Speedman Mitigation Project is a stream and wetland restoration project located in the Cape Fear River Basin, North Carolina. The Speedman project restored approximately 3,500 linear feet of stream channels and enhancing adjacent riparian buffers and wetlands.
The site, a former agricultural parcel, underwent reforestation, channel realignment, and removal of drainage ditches to improve hydrology, water quality, and wildlife habitat.
Unique Places to Save plays a vital role in the long-term protection and stewardship of the Speedman project. As the conservation easement holder, UP2S will ensure the permanent protection of the mitigation areas in accordance with federal and state requirements.
In addition to holding the easement, UP2S is responsible for managing the financial assurances, including the stewardship funds, guaranteeing the site’s ecological integrity. Our involvement ensures continuity, accountability, and enduring conservation outcomes.
