The Thoroughfare Swamp Conservation Mitigation Easement is 23 acres of former open row crop fields turned dense riparian buffer for the Thoroughfare Swamp stream.
The Easement Property is naturally mucky swamp wetland in some areas, providing habitat for native wildlife and connectivity to the in tact forest outside of the easement.
The easement covers 23.6 acres in the Neuse River Basin of Wayne County and has been protected since 2019, with the stream buffer work carried out by Wildlands Engineering. Land that was in open row crops now holds a wooded buffer between the farming and the swamp. As the conservation easement grantee, Unique Places to Save is responsible for keeping it that way permanently.
