The permanent conservation of the Camp Creek Mitigation Site will restore and protect stream and wetland functions within the Neuse River Basin, improving ecological integrity and water quality across a historically altered landscape.

The project rebuilds degraded stream channels, reconnects them to their floodplains, and enhances habitat complexity, reducing sediment inputs and strengthening biological connections between aquatic and riparian ecosystems.

Wetland functions are improved through the re-establishment of historic floodplain wetlands, increased floodplain interaction, and the removal of invasive species, allowing natural hydrology and native vegetation to recover.

These restored resources are permanently protected under a conservation easement held by Unique Places to Save, ensuring that the project’s ecological and hydrological benefits are safeguarded for the long term and continue to provide high-quality habitat for diverse species.

Why the Right Conservation Partner Matters

Conservation easements are permanent, legally binding agreements that shape how land can be utilized far into the future. Because of that permanence, the organization you choose to work with matters as much as the land itself.
