The Toadstool Mitigation Project is a 79.9-acre ecological restoration effort located in the Cape Fear River Basin. Developed by Water & Land Solutions and protected in perpetuity by Unique Places to Save, the project restores degraded streams and floodplain wetlands in the Stony Creek subwatershed—an area facing increasing development and agricultural pressure.

The project restores or enhances over 19,000 linear feet of stream and reestablishes 0.77 acres of riparian wetlands. Restoration methods include raising streambeds, reconnecting floodplains, installing natural in-stream structures, and planting native vegetation. These actions reduce sediment and nutrient runoff, improve habitat for aquatic life, and support the ecological health of Benton Branch and downstream waters.

The site includes tributaries to Lake Burlington and is adjacent to an existing mitigation bank, creating a connected and protected wildlife corridor. Unique Places to Save holds the conservation easement and ensures long-term stewardship, aligning with its mission to protect land and water for future generations.
