Covering approximately 320.69 acres within the Upper Broad River Basin, the easement safeguards critical aquatic corridors including Bullock Creek, Bells Creek, 11 unnamed tributaries, and surrounding wetland habitats. The protected property encompasses approximately 32,727 linear feet of perennial and intermittent stream channels and 43.5 acres of riparian wetlands, preserving scenic open space and vital wildlife habitat in perpetuity.

The Poe’s Landing project represents a significant investment in stream and wetland restoration across a landscape historically impacted by commercial silviculture and agricultural ditching. Restoration activities focus on reconnecting incised channels to historic floodplains, plugging artificial drainage networks, and converting managed pine plantations back into high-functioning native bottomland hardwood forest communities. These efforts improve water quality, enhance flood attenuation, reduce sediment and nutrient loads, and support downstream aquatic resources feeding into the Broad River.

Unique Places to Save is honored to hold and steward this conservation easement as part of its ongoing commitment to protecting essential land and water resources. We are also grateful for our collaboration with Nuveen Natural Capital, Davey Mitigation and Bingham Properties, whose partnership made the permanent protection and ecological restoration of Poe's Landing possible.

The Impossibility of Capturing Nature in a PDF

Every profession has the gap between what the job looks like on paper and what actually happens on the ground. In land conservation, that divide can be neatly summarized by one specific, legal document: the Baseline Documentation Report (BD...
