The major goals of the Rosewood Conservation Mitigation Easement proposed buffer mitigation and nutrient offset project are to provide ecological and water quality enhancements to the Neuse River Basin by restoring the riparian area to create a functional riparian corridor through activities including:
- decrease nutrient levels,
- decrease sediment input,
- decrease water temperature, and
- create diffuse-flow discharge throughout the riparian area.
Rosewood protects 47.1 acres in the Neuse River Basin, under easement since 2022, with the buffer and nutrient offset work carried out by Wildlands Engineering. A restored riparian corridor catches nutrients and sediment before they reach the water and helps keep the stream cool, which is how the project meets the goals listed above. Unique Places to Save is the conservation easement grantee, so that corridor is protected permanently.
